We're so proud to be partnering with the Agariya community, a tribe that has been working in the salt district of Gujarat, India for generations, to bring you this solar-powered, earth-filtered, and hand-pounded salt. Using solar pumps provided by our local NGO partners, the Agariyas harvest this bright, inland salt from the desert’s underground water table. The salt’s high-mineral content is preserved through a slow-filtration process through the desert soil. In partnership with a local women's self-help group, whose members then hand-pound the salt to the perfect texture for everyday use, we are able to ensure that the salt retains as much flavour as possible. Our salt comes from the famous desert salt pans in the Wild Ass Sanctuary and Little Rann of Kutch in Gujarat. After Gandhi's Dandi Salt March in 1930, Gujarati salt became a symbol of freedom and an act of nonviolent civil disobedience against the British Empire. We like to think of ours as emblematic of sunshine and freedom alike.

Grown in the historic, rain-fed, sugarcane-growing Daund region, our jaggery is grown and processed by Kantilal Randive, a well-known soil health expert. Our sugarcane is intercropped with dhaincha (sesbania bispinosa), chickpeas, and wheat for soil health. Its juice is clarified using traditional methods — incorporating wild okra to remove the impurities — for a clean, nutty jaggery powder! Use the jaggery to sweeten your cups of chai and haldi doodh, and for other drinks, baked goods, and more! Given that jaggery has a high molasses content (AKA the nutritious brown stuff that is usually pulled out of sugar during the refining process), expect a deep, rich flavor that comes in clutch when you're subbing it in for any sugars.

Your rose petals are organically grown by Parvathi Menon and her wonderful team on a 10 acre farm heaving with an abundance of bananas, limes, avocados and rain-fed turmeric in northern Tamil Nadu. After two years of trial and error, Parvathi finally figured out how to grow the Damask Rose (or Panneer Rose in Tamil), that whilst prized for being incredibly fragrant, is also known to be extremely delicate and very high maintenance, especially when grown regeneratively, without pesticides. Since the rose petals need to be processed everyday when they are perfectly in bloom, Parvathi designed an ingenious solar powered dehydration system that is just gentle enough to help the petals retain their deep colouring and lock in their renowned fragrance. We’ve been grinding small batches into our coffee beans, topping our desserts with these bursts of pink, and even steeping them in cream for a little floral joy in our everyday lives.

This is the spice Sana started the company with! In search of an heirloom turmeric that was regeneratively grown as well as delicious, she was recommended to Mr. Prahbu Kasareneni by the Indian Institute of Spice Research. Prahbu was a young idealistic farmer, and the only one in his area to start growing regeneratively, which initially brought critique from nearby farmers, until they saw how well he was doing. Today, it is still one of our most well-loved spices, and for good reason—it's delicious!

Dill pickle seasoning is a flavor-packed blend that adds a refreshing tang and savory kick to a wide range of dishes. Whether you're a fan of classic dill pickles or looking to spice up your culinary creations, this seasoning is an excellent way to introduce new flavors to your meals. In this blog, we’ll explore the benefits, uses, and tips for cooking with dill pickle seasoning, and how you can incorporate it into both everyday and special occasion dishes.

What is Dill Pickle Seasoning?

Dill pickle seasoning is a spice mix inspired by the tangy, savory flavors of dill pickles. The seasoning often includes a combination of dill weed, garlic, onion powder, mustard seeds, and sometimes a touch of sugar to mimic the classic pickle flavor profile. It's designed to provide that perfect balance of sour, savory, and tangy flavors without the need for actual pickles.

Key Ingredients in Dill Pickle Seasoning:

  • Dill Weed: The primary flavor that gives dill pickles their signature taste.
  • Garlic Powder: Adds a savory depth that complements the tanginess of the dill.
  • Mustard Seed: A slightly pungent and spicy element that enhances the overall pickle flavor.
  • Onion Powder: Brings mild sweetness and umami to the blend.
  • Vinegar Powder: A tangy component that mimics the acidity of pickles.

Benefits of Using Dill Pickle Seasoning

1. Versatility

Dill pickle seasoning isn't just for pickles! It can be used in a variety of dishes, making it a versatile pantry staple. From seasoning potatoes to garnishing salads or snacks, it can easily complement different flavors.

2. Health Benefits

Dill, the main ingredient in dill pickle seasoning, has various health benefits. Dill is known to aid in digestion, reduce inflammation, and is packed with antioxidants. Additionally, the seasoning offers a healthier alternative to salt-heavy seasonings, helping you maintain a balanced diet.

3. Convenience

Pre-made dill pickle seasoning saves time and effort, giving you the perfect mix of spices without the need to individually measure out each ingredient. This makes it an ideal addition to a busy kitchen.

4. Unique Flavor Profile

Dill pickle seasoning provides a refreshing and tangy flavor that is distinct from traditional herbs and spices. This unique flavor is perfect for adding a zesty punch to your dishes.

Uses of Dill Pickle Seasoning

1. Seasoning for Roasted Vegetables

Toss your roasted vegetables with dill pickle seasoning to create a unique side dish. This seasoning adds a refreshing tang to potatoes, carrots, zucchini, and more.

2. Salads and Dressings

Dill pickle seasoning works wonderfully in salad dressings, adding a bold flavor that pairs well with leafy greens. Try adding it to a creamy dressing or vinegar-based salad dressing for an extra layer of tang.

3. Popcorn and Snacks

Sprinkle dill pickle seasoning on your popcorn for a tangy, savory snack. It’s also great for seasoning chips, pretzels, or roasted nuts.

4. Veggie Burgers or Patties

Whether you're making homemade veggie burgers or vegetable patties, dill pickle seasoning can bring an extra level of flavor. Add it to your patty mix for a tasty and unique twist.

5. Dips and Sauces

Incorporate dill pickle seasoning into creamy dips like ranch, hummus, or sour cream. This adds a zesty, tangy kick that’s perfect for dipping your favorite vegetables or chips.

6. Marinades

Dill pickle seasoning can be used as a base for marinades. Combine it with oil, vinegar, and lemon juice for a tangy marinade that’s great for vegetables, tofu, or other plant-based proteins.

Cooking Tips for Using Dill Pickle Seasoning

1. Pair with Mild Flavors

Dill pickle seasoning’s bold and tangy flavor works best when paired with milder flavors, such as potatoes, rice, and tofu. This allows the seasoning to shine without overpowering the dish.

2. Use in Small Amounts

Since dill pickle seasoning is tangy and flavorful, start by using it in small amounts and taste as you go. You can always add more, but it’s harder to tone down the flavor once it’s added.

3. Mix with Other Seasonings

Dill pickle seasoning can be mixed with other seasonings to create a more complex flavor. For example, try combining it with smoked paprika for a smoky kick or nutritional yeast for a cheesy flavor.

4. Incorporate in Dressings Early

When using dill pickle seasoning in salad dressings, give it time to marinate. Let the dressing sit for at least 15 minutes before serving so the flavors have time to develop.

Dill Pickle Seasoning Comparisons

1. Dill Pickle Seasoning vs. Ranch Seasoning

  • Dill Pickle Seasoning: Tangy, savory, with a distinct pickle-like flavor. Perfect for adding a refreshing kick to a wide range of dishes.
  • Ranch Seasoning: Creamy and herby, often with a mild tang. Ideal for creamy dips and as a seasoning for comfort foods like potato salad or pizza.
