CTC tea β€” named after a processing method known as crush, tear, curl β€” yields a stiff, medium-strength cup that holds up beautifully to milk and spices. It is the tea of choice for the millions of cups of chai made every day on the subcontinent.

Farm Story

Grown by a small group of organic farmers in the Jaintia hills alongside Lakadong turmeric and black sesame. This wildly strong, surprisingly tiny heirloom ginger variety (Makhir means small in Khasi!) is sourced for us by our friends at Zizira, a small team of Meghalaya locals dedicated to connecting Meghalayan farmers to better markets. Besides sheer potency, it's also more caramel-y and aromatic than any ginger you've ever tried!

Farm Story

Farm Story

Proudly grown by a cooperative of farmers in Sirārakhong and sourced for us by our friends Zeinorin & Alan of Hillwild. Legend has it that the villagers' ancestors found these exquisitely long, vibrant chillies growing in the wild on a hunting trip that they then brought home and have made a part of their daily cuisine ever since. Many nearby villages have tried to grow the Sirārakhong Hāthei chillies, but something about the terroir of Sirarakhong produces the very best of the best! - Read The Diaspora Chilli Primer that our recipe editor Asha put together for more information about the differences between all of our chillies, including how to dehydrate whole chillies, and ideas for how to use them!

Farm Story

The Vishoi family has been farming cumin organically for the last five years in the district of Jodhpur. Our Jodhana Cumin is grown alongside groundnuts, wheat, and fenugreek, and farmed using vermicomposting, natural pest repellent, and fermented fertilizers. Farm Story

We're so proud to be partnering with the Agariya community, a tribe that has been working in the salt district of Gujarat, India for generations, to bring you this solar-powered, earth-filtered, and hand-pounded salt. Using solar pumps provided by our local NGO partners, the Agariyas harvest this bright, inland salt from the desert’s underground water table. The salt’s high-mineral content is preserved through a slow-filtration process through the desert soil. In partnership with a local women's self-help group, whose members then hand-pound the salt to the perfect texture for everyday use, we are able to ensure that the salt retains as much flavour as possible. Our salt comes from the famous desert salt pans in the Wild Ass Sanctuary and Little Rann of Kutch in Gujarat. After Gandhi's Dandi Salt March in 1930, Gujarati salt became a symbol of freedom and an act of nonviolent civil disobedience against the British Empire. We like to think of ours as emblematic of sunshine and freedom alike.

Farm Story

Grown on the Sakariya family farm, our Hariyali Fennel is found alongside Nandini Coriander, Resham Patti Chilli, desi cotton, and heirloom wheat. This variety has been derived from Sakariya family matriarch Bhanuben's indigenous seed collection, and gentle post-processing allows it to remain a beautiful parrot green color!

It's a variety that Dharmesh, a third generation farmer and natural farming expert has keenly developed for its incredible fragrance and vibrant coloring.

Farm Story

Grown in the historic, rain-fed, sugarcane-growing Daund region, our jaggery is grown and processed by Kantilal Randive, a well-known soil health expert. Our sugarcane is intercropped with dhaincha (sesbania bispinosa), chickpeas, and wheat for soil health. Its juice is clarified using traditional methods β€” incorporating wild okra to remove the impurities β€” for a clean, nutty jaggery powder! Use the jaggery to sweeten your cups of chai and haldi doodh, and for other drinks, baked goods, and more! Given that jaggery has a high molasses content (AKA the nutritious brown stuff that is usually pulled out of sugar during the refining process), expect a deep, rich flavor that comes in clutch when you're subbing it in for any sugars.

Farm Story

Winner of the 2022 Good Food Awards, our cacao powder is organically grown by Harish Manoj Kumar and Karthikeyan Palaniswamy on their family farm at the base of the Western Ghats. It's a minimally processed (not Dutch processed), non-alkalized cacao powder meaning that it's rich in all its naturally occurring nutrients and antioxidants. That super lush chocolatey mouthfeel? Hella cocoa butter, baby! Made from Anamalai Estate’s award winning cacao beans, this is a beautiful showcase of the potential of Indian cacao. The fact that these beans are grown on a single estate means that you’re tasting a true expression of terroir i.e. the soil they were planted in, and the seasons they grew through. The cacao is intercropped with nutmeg and coconut palms, on land that was originally a eucalyptus grove, then a guava orchard, and now a diverse ecosystem where desi cows roam by day, and elephants scratch their backs on the coconut palms by night! No added sugar. 100% raw cacao powder.

Your rose petals are organically grown by Parvathi Menon and her wonderful team on a 10 acre farm heaving with an abundance of bananas, limes, avocados and rain-fed turmeric in northern Tamil Nadu. After two years of trial and error, Parvathi finally figured out how to grow the Damask Rose (or Panneer Rose in Tamil), that whilst prized for being incredibly fragrant, is also known to be extremely delicate and very high maintenance, especially when grown regeneratively, without pesticides. Since the rose petals need to be processed everyday when they are perfectly in bloom, Parvathi designed an ingenious solar powered dehydration system that is just gentle enough to help the petals retain their deep colouring and lock in their renowned fragrance. We’ve been grinding small batches into our coffee beans, topping our desserts with these bursts of pink, and even steeping them in cream for a little floral joy in our everyday lives.

Farm Story

Farm Story

Grown by our beloved Kasaraneni family amidst marigolds, bananas, and black rice on their 3rd generation farm. Whilst Mr. Prabhu Kasaraneni’s family has been farming for three generations, he is a self-taught organic farmer who began growing heirloom Pragati turmeric in 2015, with assistance from the Indian Institute of Spice Research. This is the spice Sana started the company with! In search of an heirloom turmeric that was regeneratively grown as well as delicious, she was recommended to Mr. Prahbu Kasareneni by the Indian Institute of Spice Research. Prahbu was a young idealistic farmer, and the only one in his area to start growing regeneratively, which initially brought critique from nearby farmers, until they saw how well he was doing. Today, it is still one of our most well-loved spices, and for good reasonβ€”it's delicious!

Farm Story

Your moringa powder is grown by the late Channabasappa's family, who have been farming this land for three generations alongside sunflowers, betel nuts and maize. The family is part of small collective of betel nut farmers that share labor and support each other; they have recently started growing this indigenous variety of moringa as a perfect shade plant to grow alongside their betel nuts. This origin is sourced exclusively for us by our friend Ekom of Moringa What, a bright light of integrity and transparency on a mission to bring beautiful single estate, shade-dried, sustainably grown, and culturally-rooted moringa powder to the world.

Farm Story

Grown on the Mehra family farm alongside pomelos and mangoes, these fenugreek seeds smell like sweet maple cookies, but when cooked, add an indescribably aromatic depth and bitterness. The Svaguna estate is our largest partner yet β€” an ambitious 300 acre project dedicated to reforestation and seed saving.

Farm Story

Grown on the Mehra family farm, this is an indigenous variety of mustard that produces tiny dotty seeds that pack a super high oil content, which means they're bursting with flavor and pungency. Black mustard is such a hardy, drought resistant crop that the Mehras use to transform barren land into rich, replenished soil whilst still keeping the land productive and profitable.

πŸ• Pizza Seasoning Guide: Ingredients, Uses & Blending Tips

Short answer: Pizza seasoning is a dry herb and spice blend typically containing oregano, basil, garlic, red chilli flakes, fennel seeds, and onion powder. It enhances flavor when sprinkled on pizza before or after baking, and is also widely used in pasta, garlic bread, dips, and marinades. Getting the ingredient ratios right β€” and sourcing quality dried herbs β€” determines whether the blend tastes vibrant or flat.

🌿 What Is Pizza Seasoning and Why Does It Matter?

Pizza seasoning is one of the most recognizable spice blends in the food industry, yet one of the most inconsistently made. Every pizza chain, cloud kitchen, and restaurant has a version of it β€” but the difference between a forgettable blend and one that customers ask about comes down to two things: ingredient quality and formulation balance. A pizza seasoning made with dried oregano that has lost its volatile oils from conventional grinding will taste papery and flat. The same formulation with cryogenically processed oregano β€” where the essential oils are fully preserved β€” smells sharp, herby, and Mediterranean from the moment the packet is opened. At 365 Spicery, this is exactly why we apply cryogenic grinding to our herb and spice blends, including custom pizza seasoning formulations.

πŸ§ͺ Core Ingredients in a Pizza Seasoning Blend

🌱 The Essential Herbs

    • Oregano β€” The backbone of any authentic pizza seasoning. Provides the sharp, earthy Mediterranean aroma that defines the blend. Dried oregano must retain volatile oils to be effective β€” heat-damaged oregano is the most common cause of a flat-tasting pizza seasoning.
    • Basil β€” Adds sweetness and a slightly floral top note that balances oregano's bitterness. Best when freeze-dried or cryogenically processed to preserve color and aroma.
    • Thyme β€” Contributes depth and an herbal woodiness. Often used in smaller quantities to avoid overpowering the blend.
    • Rosemary β€” Optional in classic blends, but popular in artisan and gourmet versions for its piney, resinous character.

🌢️ The Spice & Flavor Components

    • Red Chilli Flakes β€” Adds heat and visual texture. The heat level can be calibrated by adjusting the variety (Kashmiri for mild color, Guntur for stronger heat).
    • Garlic Powder β€” Delivers savory depth and umami. Dehydrated garlic ground to fine powder disperses evenly through the blend.
    • Onion Powder β€” Adds background sweetness and rounds out the savory profile.
    • Fennel Seeds β€” Classic in Italian-style pizza seasoning. Provides a mild anise note that lifts the overall blend.
    • Black Pepper β€” Adds mild heat and sharpness without competing with chilli.
    • Salt β€” Balances and amplifies all other components. Use finely ground food-grade salt for even distribution.

πŸ“‹ Standard Pizza Seasoning Ratio (Per 100g Blend)

    |---|---|---|

🍽️ How to Use Pizza Seasoning Beyond Pizza

Pizza seasoning is a highly versatile blend that works across far more applications than its name suggests:

    • πŸ«“ Garlic bread and focaccia β€” Mix with butter or olive oil and spread before toasting
    • πŸ₯— Pasta and pasta sauces β€” Add directly to tomato base for Italian flavor
    • πŸ— Chicken marinades β€” Combine with olive oil and lemon for a Mediterranean dry rub
    • πŸ§€ Cheese dips and spreads β€” Stir into cream cheese or hung curd for a herby dip
    • πŸ₯™ Flatbreads and wraps β€” Sprinkle on lavash or roti for a quick seasoned snack
    • 🍟 French fries and potato wedges β€” Toss hot fries in pizza seasoning for a street-style snack

βœ… Do's and ❌ Don'ts When Buying or Making Pizza Seasoning

    Ingredient Amount Role in Blend
Dried Oregano 35g Primary herb, backbone aroma
Dried Basil 20g Sweetness and balance
Red Chilli Flakes 15g Heat and visual texture
    Garlic Powder 10g Savory depth
    Fennel Seeds 8g Italian character
    Onion Powder 5g Background sweetness
    Dried Thyme 4g Herbal depth
    Black Pepper 2g Mild sharpness
    Salt 1g Balance and amplification

    βœ… Do ❌ Don't
Smell the oregano before buying β€” it should be sharp and herby Buy pizza seasoning that smells like dry grass or nothing
Ask if herbs are cryogenically processed to preserve oils Assume all dried oregano blends are equally potent
Store in an airtight container away from heat and light Keep pizza seasoning near the stove β€” heat destroys aroma
Request FSSAI-certified supplier for bulk food business orders Use blends with artificial flavor enhancers or anti-caking agents
Test a sample batch on your recipe before placing bulk orders Mix dry seasoning into wet sauces too early β€” add at the end

    πŸ’‘ Expert Recommendation

The single biggest mistake food businesses make with pizza seasoning is treating oregano as a commodity. Dried oregano from different origins β€” Mediterranean Turkish, Indian, or Mexican β€” has meaningfully different volatile oil profiles, which translate directly into different aroma intensities in the final blend. Before standardizing a recipe for production, request oregano samples from at least two origins, compare the aroma intensity, and choose the one that matches your target flavor profile. Then verify that your supplier uses cryogenic grinding to preserve those oils in the final blend β€” because without that, the origin advantage is lost during processing.

πŸ§‘β€πŸ³ From a Food Business Owner's Point of View

Rohit, owner of a cloud kitchen chain in Bengaluru with 12 outlets, reformulated his house pizza seasoning blend after customer feedback kept noting the pizza "lacked aroma." He switched from a local market blend to a custom formulation from 365 Spicery using cryogenically processed oregano and Guntur chilli flakes. "The difference was immediate. Our kitchen smells incredible when we open a fresh packet. Customers started commenting on it without us saying anything. One review called it the best smelling pizza in Bengaluru." Aroma is taste before the first bite β€” and pizza seasoning delivers it more than any other topping.

    πŸ”‘ Key Takeaways

    • 🌿 Pizza seasoning core: oregano, basil, chilli flakes, garlic, fennel, onion powder, thyme
    • πŸ• Works beyond pizza: pasta, garlic bread, marinades, dips, fries, and flatbreads
    • ❄️ Cryogenically processed herbs retain volatile oils β€” the difference is smell-able instantly
    • πŸ§ͺ Origin of oregano matters β€” Mediterranean varieties have stronger oil profiles
    • πŸ“¦ Store airtight, away from heat; add to hot food at the end for maximum aroma

Q: What is pizza seasoning made of?

A: Pizza seasoning typically contains dried oregano, basil, red chilli flakes, garlic powder, fennel seeds, onion powder, thyme, black pepper, and salt. Oregano is the dominant ingredient at around 35% of the blend, providing the signature Italian-style aroma.

Q: How do you use pizza seasoning?

A: Sprinkle pizza seasoning on pizza before or after baking, add to pasta sauces, mix into garlic butter for bread, use as a dry rub for chicken, or toss with hot fries. It works in any recipe that benefits from Italian herb and spice flavor.

Q: What makes a good quality pizza seasoning?

A: Good pizza seasoning has strong, immediate aroma when the packet is opened β€” especially from the oregano. This indicates the volatile oils are intact. Low-quality blends use heat-damaged herbs that smell flat. Ask if the herbs were cryogenically processed to confirm quality.

Q: Can I use pizza seasoning in pasta?

A: Yes. Pizza seasoning adds excellent flavor to tomato-based pasta sauces, cream sauces, and pasta bakes. Add it toward the end of cooking to preserve the herb aroma, rather than at the start when heat can diminish it.

Q: What is the difference between pizza seasoning and Italian seasoning?

A: Pizza seasoning typically includes red chilli flakes and fennel seeds for heat and Italian character, while Italian seasoning is usually a milder blend of oregano, basil, thyme, rosemary, and marjoram. Pizza seasoning is spicier and more boldly flavored.

Q: How long does pizza seasoning last?

A: Properly stored in an airtight container away from heat and moisture, pizza seasoning lasts 12–18 months. Cryogenically ground blends retain aroma significantly longer than conventionally processed equivalents. Discard if the blend smells flat or like dry paper.

Q: Can I order custom pizza seasoning for my restaurant or food brand?

A: Yes. 365 Spicery develops custom pizza seasoning formulations for QSR chains, cloud kitchens, food brands, and private label products at competitive MOQs. Contact us at +91 72799 00500 to discuss your formula requirements.

Q: Should I add pizza seasoning before or after baking?

A: Both work, but adding half before baking and the remaining half after baking gives the best result β€” the first half infuses into the cheese while baking, and the second half provides a fresh aromatic hit when served. This technique maximizes flavor and aroma.

Q: Is pizza seasoning the same as mixed herbs?

A: Not exactly. Mixed herbs is a general blend of European dried herbs (thyme, marjoram, oregano, basil). Pizza seasoning is a more specific Italian-inspired formulation that also includes red chilli flakes, fennel seeds, garlic powder, and onion powder for a bolder, spicier profile.

Q: Does 365 Spicery supply pizza seasoning for bulk or wholesale orders?

A: Yes. 365 Spicery supplies pizza seasoning and custom seasoning blends for wholesale, private label, and export orders from its FSSAI and FSSC 22000 certified facility in Mumbai. Lab-tested batches with full documentation are provided as standard with every order.

    ---

Pizza seasoning is simple in concept but surprisingly complex in quality β€” and that gap is entirely determined by the herbs and spices inside it. Strong aroma from the first sprinkle, heat that registers without burning, and herbal character that survives baking are all products of the formulation and processing method, not just the recipe. At 365 Spicery, we build these blends from cryogenically ground ingredients because a pizza seasoning should be the thing your customers smell from across the table. Have you checked whether your current blend still has the same aroma it did when you first tried it?
